Cannot really fault the the Russians: they saw a weakened electoral system full of possibilities for manipulation and took advantage of it using a minimum of resources (a handful of young hackers) in order to weaken one of their chief competitors for dominance on the world stage.

They succeeded, but only because we gave them every opportunity.

We need reform of the electoral system: comprehensively and at a national level. We need to afford it the level of care and attention that it warrants.
