What is the “poli-drawl?” That’s my term for the absurdly exaggerated drawl affected by certain Texas politicians in a mistaken effort to sound like the little people. This is a type of “plain Folks” propaganda, and it shows just how cynical and how far out of touch they are with the constituents. We natives speak with a drawl, all right, but we do not sound like a vaudeville parody of a semi-literate hick. Quite a few of our politicians do, at least in public. To paraphrase FDR, they want us to think they are simple bare-foot millionaire lawyers and tycoons.
