I’m pretty sure that in the state of Texas, you can actually shoot someone who’s on your property, but Texas is the only state with that law to the best of my knowledge. The Vancouver, WA shooter has been charged with second-degree murder, which jibes with my dad told me all those years ago.

I think there might be something like that in Colorado and the Western States. Seem to remember some “all trespassers will be shot on site” signs” somewhere, sometime.
