re: #373 RealityBasedSteve

I had coffee with a friend last night, and we got talking about the logical implications from the Hobby Lobby decision. One that is the next logical step, since the HL Owners don’t object to ALL forms of birth control, but only to some for religious reasons. (not rooted in the science).

The Catholic Church teaches, and devout Catholics believe that ALL forms of birth control is a sin. What happens the first time that a company (not a true ‘religious organization’) that is owned by Catholics says “We can’t cover ANY form of BC, since our beliefs hold it to be a sin”.

I know that this is sitting right around the corner, getting ready to raise its ugly head.

The church may say it, but many Catholic women and their male family and friends do not follow the rules of the church with regards to birth control and many other things.

Who knows, maybe all this is going to lead to a collision between dogma and reality. It is not like it is not needed.

And as we all know all too well, the churches own people have had some big problems following the dogma and doing everything right.

I always wondered as a Catholic myself, why do people say they ‘believe’ but do not follow the rules. Nothing of good for anyone in that.
