Just to be nitpicky, they can fire for no reason, but they can’t fire for any reason; they can’t fire due to race, gender, age, or any of the other protected categories.

So if they want to fire somebody who is too old, too black or too female, they can invoke “at will.”

I got fired from a job for refusing to work on Saturday. They actually sent me a letter beginning “Because you are Jewish and observe the Sabbath.” This was about 20 years ago.

I started proceedings but then I found another job which paid more.
