You know, we Jews are very into particulars when it comes to Talmudic legalisms.

We have the capacity to distinguish between a common farm animal in an agrarian culture that an innocent bystander might reasonably expect to encounter - like an ox, in an age when most farmers kept them, and a dangerous animal who is only to be handled by a professional.

The counter example in Talmudic discourse is a Lion, not an orca. BUt the idea is the same.

One of the things that really annoys me about low brow fundie commentators is that in their simple minded drive to make everything into bite sized black and white bits, they come and take Jewish law and butcher something that really smart people take a whole lifetime to get into. It is some serious chutzpah.

As a Christian, if i really have an important question about what I consider the “Old Testament”, I ask Jewish friends.
