I agree that the koran burning is definitely a message born of hatred, not so much intimidation.

So, therefore it’s very, very, very different thank building park51.

So comparing people’s ‘feelings’ on the two is as ridiculous as comparing the feelings of people dealing with a burning cross on their lawn or a church being built.

Your syllogism had no merit.

Burning books is retarded but to not burn them out of fear of violence by your opponent is just as retarded.

But that is a distortion of the argument entirely.

The books should not be burned because it is a message of hate and intolerance.

In addition, this message of hate and intolerance undermines our claims to be tolerant of Islam, causing those in the Middle East who oppose us to be able to point to the incident as a sign that it really is a holy war, getting new recruits who might not otherwise have signed on.

The reason not to do it is because it’s morally and ethically wrong. It’s also unwise to do it, because it will put our troops in peril. Two entirely different lines of reasoning.

It’s a tough call, I keep going back and forth kind of like my position on Park 51.

What is a tough call?

They have right to burn the books. They shouldn’t, because it’s such a foul message of contempt.

They have a right to build Park51. And they should, because it is in no way a message of hate or intolerance, but rather one of ecumenicism and freedom.

So what’s the tough call?
