I’m going to disagree with that one. I’ve never been arrested or charged with anything, but that doesn’t mean that I would want the FBI to come sniffing around if I were falsely accused.

I can understand your cavils, and agree in principle, but if you or I were being nominated for a vitally important -lifetime- government appointment, like the Supreme Court, I think that the relative “falsity” of accusations ought to be investigated, and thoroughly, by a reputable agency. (which might leave the FBI out, in any case).
