So, I guess a local school district cancelled Veteran’s day as a vacation day for the schools. I got an ear full yesterday about how they didn’t cancel Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I pointed out that while I thought it was a bad idea, Veterans also had Memorial Day. So, technically, the kids had two days off in honor of Veterans.

The counter was that there was a whole month of Black History. The idea that the kids didn’t get the whole month off didn’t register.

nice huh?

We normally had Veterans Day as a school day but Memorial Day off. Makes sense since traditionally Veterans Day is traditionally IIRC about honoring the living while Memorial Day is about honoring the deceased. If people really want to honor veterans and our troops, they’d support better help for our troops once they get home rather than using them as political props to deflect criticism from.
