I’m talking about strictly the Presidency. I very much disagree with you that Bush and Reagan were anti-immigrant. They sucked but not for that erason. OF course, it’s not new especially among the base. As I got at, those people in so aclled flyover country have always been xenophobic but what’s different now is having an ally in the CinC.

True, Ronald Reagan also employed the “Make America Great Again” line but used it to speak favourably of immigrants. After his Immigration Control Act granting amnesty, conservatives never made that mistake again.
