re: #399 Shug

I hope somebody went to jail over this

Nope. Couldn’t prove a thing. But I did help to send another of them to prison.

Joan Andrews, a radical Catholic antiabortionist, posed as a woman seeking an abortion to gain acess to the Ladies Center clinic, then went on a rampage once inside and wrecked medical equipment. She was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of property destruction.

A mole we had in the antiaborrtion camp had furnished us with the phone number of the Pro Life Action Newsline, where all these people from across the nation would call and get their recorded updates and marching orders from former Catholic priest Joseph Scheidler of Chicago, the guy who wrote the sabotage manual Closed: 99 Ways To Stop Abortion. When Joan Andrews failed to appear for her arraignment, I called the number and found out that she couldn’t show because she was in jail, having been arrested for the doing the very same thing at a clinic in St. Louis.

I told the local newspaper and the local television station about this fact, gave them both the phone number to check it out themselves, and told each of them that I’d told the other one, so they would have to run with it for fear of being scooped by the competition and being seen as suppressing legitimate news. Due to the publicity, the court ordered a pre-trial investigation that determined that she had done the same thing at more than 120 clinics in the previous two years; apparently these people were paying to ship her from clinic to clinic across the nation to vandalize them. As a felony repeat offender, she received 5 years instead of the 90 days she would have most likely otherwise received.

Our Catholic governor released her early.
