My great grandpas didn’t work in the mines because YAY COAL. They worked in them because it was work to do in that era. They dreamed that their hard work would mean better futures for their children, grand children, great grandchildren, and great great grandkids.

exactly the same family story here…granddad came over from Slovakia, hurt his back working in the mines, took to drinking for the pain, got a hold of some denatured hooch during Prohibition and went half-blind from it.
