BTW AM, if you’re going to rag on people who contend the party left them, you’re going to be talking about a good amount of people here. I’m a lifelong liberal but a lot of people here came to where they are now including our host after being on the right. I agree with you that the GOP has more or less stank for well over 50 years now but I’m not going to beat up someone who finally sees it for what we knew it was.

Well, I can’t say for sure. I view “the party left me” statement with some scepticism, particularly since it has been racist, misogynistic, and hateful toward the poor all my life.

Perhaps many people (including those you cite here) didn’t see that. That’s fine; the correct answer would be “I didn’t see that,” not “the party left me.”

I imagine most Republican voters aren’t racists. Those who bailed on the GOP saw what they really stand for. But the party didn’t leave them, those voters learned what the party was really about.

Mr. Painter is using the same excuse, as a powerful person in a Republican administration, after the party planted its racist flag during Goldwater’s run for President. I find it difficult to believe he didn’t know what they were about when he served in the White House.

I was able to figure it out when Ronald Reagan opened his campaign on the site of slain civil rights workers and laid a wreath in an SS cemetery in West Germany. Mr. Painter has the benefit of many political connexions and education I can never hope to attain, yet he claims “the party left him?”

I am going to need to bail now … I have an exploding migraine headache. My medication is kicking in for that and I need to lie down. Catch y’all later… .
