The US military, with it’s hardened equipment, would sit back and enjoy the spectacle I assume.

Hardening is a matter of gradual degree, not of binary magic-protection. But certainly all of the gun-totin’ patriots would freeze and/or starve to death due to wholesale collapse of civil infrastructure long before most military systems had any trouble.
