It’s two things:

One, by accusing everyone else of being irretrievably depraved, they get to feel like whatever they did—like, say, banging their buxom secretary and funding a secretary-banging lifestyle on the parishioner’s dime—seems by comparison mere foibles.

Two, they’re not brainwashed, they’re having a great fucking time repeating this shit. Hate is fun, the power fantasy of “when we win, we’ll do horrible shit to all this deserving liberal trash” is fun. That’s it’s actual power…they’re not so scared they can’t get a tingle up their leg at the idea of license to do anything.

Yep, that’s the usual outcome of the whole calvinist heresy - either you’re already saved and what you do doesn’t matter or your already damned and what you do doesn’t matter. The destruction of the concept of free will makes Christianity impossible.
