He was essentially saying “Wait till we have time to heal.” At most, he didn’t want to get put on the spot. The decision as to what legislation to argue for is a political one, and he didn’t want to have that discussion just yet. For him to try to articulate a position would have been to walk into a minefield.

Maybe its the radical in me but sometimes “wait till we have time to heal” rings in my ears the same as “wait till we have time to forget”

Because you know what it may be crass to “never waste a crisis”

But Crisises (Crisisi?) only happen because something went horribly wrong somewhere.

Even “natural” ones like Hurricane Katrina wouldn’t have become a crisis if things hadn’t gone horribly wrong with FEMA/the state’s ability to deal with the storm hadn’t been way below par.

Things have gone wrong, we should figure out why and act on it before they go wrong in the exact same way again.

This doesn’t mean we should fly off the handle, but it is never too soon to at least start a dialogue…
