The thing that really gets me is that the GOP could have put themselves in a far better position with a simple move: Put forward a “clean” CR. No gimmicky addition of CHIP reauthorization in a cynical attempt at seizing the “moral high ground,” just put forward a bill that does nothing but fund the government for 30 days. Then they would have had a defensible position, arguing that they’re trying to keep the government open while the DNC is trying to involve something that had nothing to do with government funding.

But no, they thought they’d be clever with an “Us vs Them” narrative and are instead showing they couldn’t organize an orgy in a brothel.
