It used to have an actual meaning, then people started throwing it about against liberals (who most definitely weren’t actual neoliberals) who weren’t sufficiently pure enough one way or another, simply because ‘liberal’ was in the word.

Yup thats the evolution I’ve seen here. I generally get what is meant when it’s invoked by certain older folks or used by Europeans and/or in a specific economic sense.
