Probably. However, ancestries certainly take strange turns. I look at my supposed ancestry, before the unification of Norway, with highly skeptical eyes. Scandinavians had extensive traditions of land ownership and heritage so there are a lot of records, but knowing what is “true” or not is another thing. Certainly there were many lies, and some forgotten knowledge.

Grandmother of good ol’ Forkbeard was Thyra, and if Forkbeard is supposed to be an ancestor of mine then Thyra is also. But hear what Wikipedia says about Thyra:

I figure once we’re back into the age of trolls and such we’re on the edge of slipping into myth, no?

Fortunately my descent is supposed to be through her son (King Bluetooth) so I don’t have to worry about troll ancestry…

With us, its pretty much all family names. Last family reunion my dad went to, every blood relative with ties to our family in this hemisphere was there and we barely broke 100 people. Grandparents went to a family reunion in Italy and they had maybe 400.

We don’t expect the family name to continue in the US beyond another generation or two. The current generation coming up now is all girls, not a single boy to carry on the family name this side of the Atlantic. Not a single boy in the last 25 years.
