re: #420 klys

Again, because I think this is important and being overlooked here:

In a lot of these discussions, particularly involving rape culture in the Western world, it is not that it is saying ‘rape is a good thing’ or ‘rape is encouraged’. The message of rape culture is one of victim blaming, sexual objectification, and trivialization of rape (making it a joke). I think most of us can agree this kind of thing does happen in Western cultures to an extent, yes?

You’re confusing things.

Sexual objectification is a natural part of human sexuality and instinct, and like plenty of parts of that, it makes a lot of people uncomfortable, it’s cruel and unfair, and it’s actually important and a lot of fun for some people.

That you don’t like it doesn’t make it evil, doesn’t make it rape, and doesn’t make it something that could ever be eradicated or controlled.

There’s a similar discussion about why people joke or trivialize. But frankly it’s too ugly to have.

In the end we have to face the fact that sexuality is not something that standardizes. You can’t make other people’s needs nice, you can’t make like my own.

When you find yourself thinking “no one needs these kinks that I don’t share” then you’ve gone off the rails. You’ll never have control over that because the people who HAVE kinks have little control over them.
