Just watching my Tivo of This Week Without Stephanoplous.

John Kerry and John Cornyn (TX) were talking about the flotilla. Both gave strong statements in support of Israel. Kerry mentioned, first thing, Israel’s right to defense, the 6000 missiles launched by Hamas from Gaza, Egypt’s border blockade and Iran’s influence in the whole sordid affair. It was a great speech.

The roundtable was George Will, Liz Cheney, Arianna Huffington and Marcos from KOS. Those two criticized Israel, of course, but Liz Cheney put them in their place. She made a wonderful statement about how the international community must stand with Israel because when we don’t, it strengthens Hizbollah, Iran and Syria against them. Huffington said that what Israel did alienates the “moderates.” Whom are these moderates? She didn’t say.

Kerry, who visited Gaza in 2009, did not meet with Hamas. When his visit was praised by a Gazan resident, he responded:

“Your political leadership needs to make it clear how it is willing to move to make peace and those decisions have not been made yet,” Kerry responded. “Your political leadership needs to understand that any nation that has rockets hitting it for many years threatening its residents is going to respond.”

Kerry also said today that the aid that Israel gives weekly to Hamas doesn’t even go to the people. That the Gazans were promised 15 schools to be built with the construction materials that were instead used to make weapons bunkers.

Say what you will about John Kerry, but he’s a good friend to Israel.
