I would say “As a public school board, we have a responsibility and an obligation to accommodate faith needs.” pretty much contradicts it. Public schools don’t have to “accommodate faith needs”. If in their free time students want to do something religious - good. That’s the extent of it.

But they do. For example, schools in NYC close for 2 days for Rosh Hashanah every year to accommodate the large number of Jewish kids would probably otherwise miss school on those days. PDF calendar for NYC schools
