I always figured that Issac had to have some long-term pathology after that whole “Going up the mountain” adventure with Abraham. Probably some trust issues that needed to be worked out.

Two things:
1) Abraham is shown coming down off the mountain to the slaves that waited for him - alone. This may be due to a redaction from an earlier version of the story where Issac did not survive or it may well be that he no longer had any trust for his father.

2) It has been also noted by Torah scholars that the bible never depicts Issac and Abraham ever talking to each other again. Even Joseph talked to his brothers who sold him into slavery.

There is considerable psychological subtlety in Genesis…
