Honestly I’ve never felt as I worried as I have for our future. I fear it’s going to take a very long time to reverse the damage Trump has caused on our nation. I have no idea who the Dems will nominate in 2020, I just worry about a divided left shooting ourself in the foot over purity battles.

Cause and effect is tricky. To me it is a large part of “our nation” that has brought Trump and all his crap upon us and who are the causes of most of the “damage” to which you refer. But certainly you are correct about the foolish self-divisiveness of the Dems and the left as a (w)hole.
