The arbitrariness is in choosing which stage of brain development better corresponds to what we would describe as a person. The facts about the brain remain same for all sides.
It’s not “arbitrary” at all. At the end of an individual human life, there’s a very precise medical/legal criteria for when a “person” becomes “something that looks like a person but really isn’t.” That’s how we know when to unplug the machines, and when it’s okay to take the heart and transplant it into someone else.
