What pisses me off about the Red Scare is how people were hounded for having had Red sympathies in the 30’s and WWII years. I’m sorry. I’m no apologist for Stalinism but I get why some people may have been fascinated by our Red ally during WWII and definitely by communism when it seemed that capitalism had failed in the days before the New Deal. And likewise, it’s also why I don’t have any respect for conservative entertainers who complain about being “blacklisted” for their views when conservative actors at that time like Reagan, Wayne, and others DID blacklist people for being leftists.

I’m sure you know Happy, but that blacklisting was more than actors. It was leveled at mostly screenwriters and authors. One of the most famous that I remember studying a bit about was Dalton Trumbo, author of “Johnny Got His Gun.”
