Killing every first born child among those who enslaved your people is only cool when you can get a wrathful deity to do it for you.

It’s probably, but not definitely, the most monstrously evil thing in the old testament. Made even worse when you realize that God ‘hardened the heart’ of the Pharaoh, indicating that he wanted it to happen that way.

The big problem I have with the complete moral relativity justification for Nat Turner killing children is I feel it’s massively insulting to him and to all people who have suffered oppression and slavery. It also provides an easy excuse for those slaveowners; if Nat Turner was just the product of his environment, why weren’t the slaveowners? Why is there any expectation of them acting in a humane way?

My view on this is probably largely affected by— but i don’t think weakened by— having been abused a lot as a kid.

In regards to something I feel is more important: I still can’t believe this sign exists, out in daylight. It’s an awful, amazingly shitty thing, and I want to drive a truck through it. But they’d just put it up again. Assholes.
