We know it is not so, so you are correct legally, but in practice what is the difference between them and any other group of people who form an organization and say they don’t want to pay taxes, nor follow the law of the land and be subsidized by everyone else for their roads, police and fire protection and much more?

Considering that they are about a million non-profit organizations in the US, that is a pretty big group representing a lot of people you are knocking.

Are you suggesting that religious organizations should not be allowed to hold and freely exercise their beliefs? Instead, their beliefs should be subject to government override if government does not agree with them?
