Exponential growth is hard for the human brain to grasp. I think because we simply don’t experience it in a visceral way regularly.
Folding a standard piece of paper in half 42 times would be thick enough to reach the moon from earth. This struck me the first time I heard it, and has been a useful analogy to explain growth rates to my kids.
The old “rice on a chessboard” illustration works too (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32…).
