re: #42 JC1
I think that AI is already there for 95%+ of the issues. If anything, the problem would be with false positives, which could then be checked by humans once someone flags it. A standard training set for AI sentiment detection is looking at the text of IMDb user movie reviews and determining whether the review was positive or negative. Detecting whether or not a post is racist or extremist or X is just a matter of putting together the appropriate training set.
My guess is that FB is weary of actually getting rid of racist and extremist content because it would cost them too much money. I would be shocked if they actually didnāt cripple their AI setup to not be too good at it.
1) I donāt think AI is there for these issues yet, based on my own experience. Youād THINK that an AI would be able to figure out that four preceding zeroes should be dropped to get to the account number, but nope. And thatās just a usual thing. Computing power works SUPER when the transactions are all similar in format and thereās a bucket for rejects. Not so much for pictures or wordsā¦I mean, how are you going to deal with (for example) the āfourteen wordsā if people start getting imaginative.
2) I think FB isnāt weary of getting rid of racist and extremist content. FB knows it will lose a LOT of money if it bumps all these fascists and extremist adjacent people from its platform.
And why I was originally going to postā¦apparently another woman came forward on Friday to announce she was raped by Danny Masterson, who is facing trial on criminal charges he raped three other women around the same period.
Late Friday night, a woman named Kathleen Jenkins made a startling claim on Twitter.
Responding to a tweet that Bobette Riales had posted in 2017, Jenkins said that she too had been raped by Danny Masterson and had been too afraid to talk about it.
We spoke with Jenkins yesterday, and she said that she had been completely unaware that there had been other women making allegations against Masterson until this week.
āI still work in film, and I just work all day and come home and I donāt really read the news,ā she says. But last month, a niece called her from a bar saying that she suspected sheād been āroofiedā ā that someone had put a ādate rapeā drug in her drink.
āShe was with her friends and so it was all right,ā Jenkins says, but it got her thinking about something she had remembered happening to her more than 20 years ago.
This week, she says, she entered Danny Mastersonās name in a search engine for the first time, and she was stunned to see all of the news stories about rape allegations against him.
Masterson is awaiting trial that could put him in prison for 45 years to life if heās found guilty of violently raping three women in incidents that happened between 2001 and 2003. Masterson has said heās innocent of the charges, and heās being represented by defense attorney Tom Mesereau.
We first broke the news in 2017 that the three women had gone to the LAPD with their allegations, and since then we reported that a total of seven women had been interviewed in the investigation.
In her charging papers, former Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey indicated that besides the three women whose allegations she was charging Masterson under, there were two additional women whose allegations were not being included. One of them was Riales, and the other womanās allegations were from 1996.
Oh, and on top of the criminal case, thereās a civil case being bounced back and forth through the California courts, with the courts saying that the women have to go through Scientologyās āarbitration systemā (which is a joke) to get at Masterson and Scientology for monetary damages. Even if they donāt believe in Scientology.
Which brings me to: Donāt sign anything a church gives you, just donāt, because this is what will happen if you get screwed. You will get screwed again.
