Heh, somehow that advanced reading progression was predictable! My early childhood comics reading produced no letters (to the best of my memory), but my brother and I did manage to send off a well-crafted fan letter to the creaters of Elfquest. After our letter was never published, we gradually lost interest in comics. (Shows how a lack of outside acknowledgment can stunt a child’s growth!) Our collection is gathering dust up in his attic, and even the poly-bags plus acid-free backers probably aren’t enough to ensure their long term survival. Ah, this thread is bringing back some good memories…

I was never a big comic book collector, but in the late 60’s and early 70’s I was big into baseball cards. I had thousands of them in cigar boxes, but gave them away to my younger cousin who destroyed them. They would have been very valuable had I hung onto them.
