BTW, just a note for the critics of Wikipedia: I do agree in part, BUT…

Wikipedia has made changes in the last few years which prevents most of this from going on. Some topics can be locked and only edited by moderators during times which call for that topic to be locked down.

Also, you have to cite sources now in Wikipedia and the moderators tend to stick to that very carefully. You can’t just write anything willy-nilly or somebody will take it down and digitally slap you on the discussion page and say something like “You have to cite sources.” Also, the mods tend to enforce strictly neutral points of view and entire sections and articles are re-written by others when they get out of hand with propaganda or the like.

One final thing: if you are on a page, always, and I mean always look at the discussion page after (or during) your reading. It will tell you what’s going on with that topic. It will also tell you what to trust or not as you will see if there are any “information wars” going on, and what sources are cited and contested by others.

Never, ever, forget to check the discussion page. I always do. If you do, Wikipedia will be far more reliable (if you follow up as well, btw) than most people give it credit.
