It’s simplistic thinking: “They’re firing a gun, so if I have a gun, I can shoot back.” It also feeds into the myth that shooters always seeks out “gun-free zones” because they’re crazy enough to shoot a whole bunch of their fellow man but sane enough to avoid places that might have guns. So if you allow guns on school campuses and arm the teachers, gunmen will totally avoid them.

Well they usually survive and escape when they shoot up a gun-free zone like a classroom or a church.
