Oh no argument there, the LCS program has been an utter disaster for the US Navy and the Ford class isn’t much better. The Zumwalt’s still so new that there’s no telling if it will be a problem child, but I suspect there will be problems to iron out. What the US Navy does best is find a good design and then exploit the fuck out of it for decades. That’s why they’re preparing for a whole new flight of Arleigh Burke’s despite the design being decades old. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Or, for example, the Nimitz class (why are we “upgrading” to the Ford-class again?), which has been in existence since the discovery of practical nuclear sea power. Granted, we never had a chance to find out how they would fare in an all-out naval battle, but as the queens on the chessboard of international politics, they have been without equal.
