Let the blame games begin. Syria has “proof” it was “rebels” who used CW.

Proof? It’s all their say so.

HRW and the UN both indicate that the rebels lack the capabilities to carry out large scale military operations that are indicated by the bombardment of the areas hit by CW simultaneously. They lack possession of the weapons systems implicated in the attacks.

What Syria and Russia want the world to think is that the rebels somehow obtained Russian-designed CW from sources (from Assad’s own stockpiles?) and used them against their own side - civilians and rebel forces alike.

It’s all part of the spin that they want people to think that the reason that Assad’s suddenly admitting to having CW and a willingness to give them up is that his forces can’t maintain security for the stockpiles of CW.

But it would take an improbable sequence of events for the rebels to have gained possession and then used the weapons in the August 21 attacks that killed more than 1,000 people and is attributed to sarin exposure.
