They were meant to be “Middle of the Road” vehicles like the Ford Explorer and Chevy S-10 Blazer.
They “Morphed” into Expeditions, Excursions, Tahoes and Suburbans. Bad move on our part.

I used to live in a crummy apartment over a small strip mall next to a major highway, north of a big city in Texas. My route to school involved walking through the parking lot of this strip mall. Not very big, mind you - maybe three or four kitschy little stores.

One day in 2000 I walked out into the parking lot and I suddenly found myself in a CANYON of trucks. The lot was FULL of big shiny things with names ending in -an and -ion. It was 2 in the afternoon and the only explanation was women shoppers in these crappy little stores below my balcony.

“WTF?”
“Who the hell drives these things?”
“How can they even afford it?”

It was like a portrait of a society controlled by female baby boomers with too much money. You could smell the credit crisis even then. And here we are…

I know they’re “just trucks” but I still hate the damned things… Except the Toyota FJ, that thing is cool.
