I think “a rising tide of fascist sentiment” in Europe is an exaggeration. Nobody stands Berlusconi, but the Charter of Fundamental rights hasn’t been violated yet to my knowledge in Italy. And the EU doesn’t exactly have the authority to just tell its member nations what to do in these cases…
