In German you have “Der Herr” (Masculine The), “Die Frau” (Feminine The), and “Das Madchen” (Neuter The), which led directly to the question of why little girls were neutered and answered by the teacher, “because they carry machine guns”.

Mark Twain pointed out that in German, a train is feminine, but a girl is neuter, which he feels gives far too much respect to the train, and none at all to the girl.

But Twain had a grudge against the German language.
