Not so much. Other than enlisting in the first place, combat is not volunteer. Choosing some combat-arms specialities makes combat far more likely, but in the end it’s a matter of mission need.

The notion that women will enter combat now is nonsense. My DIL locked and loaded in the first Gulf War. This just sort of recognizes that women have been in combat for decades, and will remain there in the ‘frontless’ war.

I do suppose the Army is not going to send a woman into combat if she does not want to go, but on the other hand, a woman who has volunteered for the army is not likely to be put off by the idea.
