NASA did use flybys of Jupiter and TItan to play crack-the-whip with New Horizons and boost its speed. After it passed Jupiter, it was trucking along at 51,000 mph, but has lost some of that speed on its way to Pluto.

Yeah, from any orbit, escape velocity is the square root of 2 times circular velocity. You get almost 30,000 m/s just from Earth’s velocity around the sun. The extra is just the .4142….
