Do the Republicans really want to set this precedent? What happens when the Democrats don’t get their way on something? Shall we shut down the government over access to abortion? Or raising the minimum wage? Maybe just when some House member doesn’t get the parking space he or she wanted?

The thing is you have to get enough of your party members to go along. Democrats are far less likely to have unanimity.
