I was raised Catholic for 20 years and it hasn’t stopped me from having pre-marital sex, condoning abortion and supporting the equal rights of gays. It doesn’t mean I wasn’t paying attention during mass for 20 years, it means I recognize bullshit when I hear it. I don’t see why Obama couldn’t have done the same thing. I understand that he is deservedly catching flak for having attended Wright’s church for so long, but I don’t think anyone here would like having every word their pastor spoke attributed directly to them.
