30K is an overestimate, and not a small one either.

It is not an overestimate. That’s wishful thinking on your part, totally unrelated to the facts.

Gun deaths by homicide, suicide or accident peaked at 37,666 in 1993 before declining to a low of 28,393 in 2000, the data show. Since then the total has risen to 31,328 in 2010, an increase of 2,935, or eight more victims a day.

More at Bloomberg…

If anyone wants actual stats you can find them at the CDC. Here are the search results for firearm deaths 2010. The 8th item in the results was the National Vital Statistics Reports, Volume 60, Number 4 (PDF), which provides numbers for 2009.

Realizing that the data I wanted would be found in “National Vital Statistics Reports” I searched for that, and the very first result took me to exactly what I wanted, a page with reports from as far back as the ’90s up until the present. The reports can be quite long, but all you have to do is press “ctrl + F” in Acrobat to bring up the search box, then enter firearms.

This isn’t rocket science, D_F. Pull your head out of the sand and face the facts instead of crying “foul” because you don’t like the numbers.
