exactly the same family story here…granddad came over from Slovakia, hurt his back working in the mines, took to drinking for the pain, got a hold of some denatured hooch during Prohibition and went half-blind from it.

Yeah my one was from Slovakia too. Lots of Slovak miners as you know. I don’t know much about him and his interests but I guarantee he didn’t the job because he loved mining, he knew it was one of the few jobs available to a man of his background and situation during that and did it. His descendants live much better lives than he did. I don’t think he would be happy about the miners being used as cynical pawns in Trump and McConnell’s game.
