Conservatives are always on the wrong side of history. That’s what comes of fighting against every improvement in who we are.

Certainly US conservatives in the 21st century are utterly useless — the last thing the US needs now is stubborn-stupid attempts to delay or halt all needed reforms (which is a much more favorable view of US conservatism than it deserves).

There have been times and places where conservatism might have been more useful (e.g., if it had managed to check some of the excesses of the French Revolution without merely seeking to restore the monarchy and feudal privileges).
