re: #466 reine.de.tout

I’m going to vehemently disagree with you.

There are other ways to handle this situation.

I’m the mother of a daughter who was pregnant at 15. There is a whole range of emotional issues at play when a 15-year-old is engaging in behavior that will result in pregnancy, whether the child is carried to term or not. There’s also after-care health issues that these parents may have needed to deal with. Parents of 15-year-olds need to know what’s going on with their kids.

I would tend to agree. Honestly, I think the whole focus on privacy rights for teens who want abortions is an outgrowth of the radical feminist movement, with their emphasis on girls being allowed to do as they please without The Man (tm) telling them what to do. I think it has less to do with practicality matters than with the idea that a woman can do what she wants with her body and no one has a right to tell her otherwise.
