Sandy shut down FedEx and the UPS for about four days after the storm. The USPS, however, continued to deliver during those four days.

UPS and FedEx are efficient. USPS, on the other hand, is effective.

Yeah, I remember walking out on Monday, during what were effectively the worst hours of Sandy for us, and still finding mail in the mailbox. Little soggy around the edges, but still delivered nonetheless.
