Being a conservative would be a serious handicap for a working scientist. Setting aside blatant absurdities like creationism, there is still the conservative habit of believing what you want to believe (which is the exact opposite of science).

There’s also the inability to accept uncertainty, and not knowing. Science is about desperately needing to know, while accepting that you may not ever know.
