re: #43 Feline Fearless Leader

Harry Turtledove wrote the novel they can probably bankroll.

*SPOILER ALERT*

Gun cultists might not care for Turtledove’s extrapolation of the Confederacy’s acquisition of AK-47s, since their victory, while relatively quick, is not so quick and trouble free as the cultists might believe. The re-armed Confederates don’t go rock and roll and blast the Union out of existence in a matter of hours, that is. A man with an AK can still be struck dead by a Minie ball, after all. Among other things, Union scientists and engineers quickly figure out the new-fangled gun’s workings and even manage to duplicate it. They cannot make the smokeless powder, however. They do know that it is a compound related to nitro-cellulose but they do not have the technology to make in bulk, at least not safely.

One of the things I love about Turtledove is his capacity for thinking these things through, often with surprising results.
