Hell blackface humor was rampant in the 80s. Some was National Lampoon style “edgy” in its intent (say, Chevy Chase in blackface as a Laker in Fletch) but in hindsight it sure must have given a lot of cover to all the white racists, and as I later learned in the 90s sure did piss off blacks - who just added it to the long, long list - in reminding them perpetually that they were constantly ridiculed when they had no social power whatsoever. So glad that I never had a taste for that kind of cruel humor.
